When you live where you work, and your work has deep, far-reaching roots in the community, you always want to do what’s right.

For more than 120 years we’ve watched our hometown grow from the first streetlight in downtown Tampa to sustained, dynamic growth and demand.

Because West Central Florida is our home too, we value collaborating with others, particularly in our four pillars: Youth Programs and Education, Wellness and Well-Being, Cultural Vitality, Growth and Innovation and Environmental Innovation.

We hope you’ll take the time to learn about our efforts. Together we can make our diverse community work for everyone. If your organization is interested in joining forces, please submit a support request application.

Corporate Citizenship By The Numbers

At a Glance: Tampa Electric's commitment to its communities

Youth and Education

Quality jobs are the beginnings of broader prosperity. And we can’t successfully bring power to West Central Florida without a robust, engaged workforce. That’s why we’re intent on powering economic development in our communities and helping train and retain local talent. Whether it’s youth mentoring or local recruiting events, we want to help our local students get to their own bright future.

Wellness and Well-Being

Wellness is…well…everything! Besides our laser-focused, companywide safety initiatives, we also host wellness events that are open to the public. Those involve everything from lifesaving workshops on how to perform CPR or stop traumatic bleeding to tips on how to be safe around electricity.

Our commitment to wellness goes all the way up to Archie Collins, our president and CEO. Archie is the 2023 chair of the American Heart Association Tampa Bay Heart Walk. His participation is deeply personal: A Tampa Electric team member, Derek Stock, saved his son from a lightning strike by doing CPR – thanks in part to training he received at Tampa Electric.

Cultural Vitality

For us, cultural vitality means supporting our community's arts and cultural institutions. It also means celebrating the rich traditions and differences of our team members and customers. We are proud of our multiple outreach programs into underserved communities, and our sponsorships of local arts and cultural venues.

Most recently, we were a major sponsor of the Tampa Bay History Center’s Travails & Triumphs exhibit that chronicles more than 500 years of Black history in the Tampa Bay area.

Growth and Innovation

Innovation is a key driver of growth for our business and our communities. We are committed to stimulating economic development efforts within each community. These efforts encourage youth, women and minorities to participate in civic activities. We are investing in progress and growth in the communities through job creation and innovative start-ups

Environmental Innovation

Serving our growing communities while being responsible guardians of our natural resources is at the forefront of our operations. Our 500-acre Florida Conservation & Technology Center (FCTC) in Apollo Beach is a mix of conservation-based recreation, clean energy education and a home for revolutionary research. It’s a fascinating place where sea turtles are rehabilitated, coral is spawned, fish are hatched and kids are able to kayak, fish, learn archery and more. Plus, it’s home to our renowned Manatee Viewing Center, a designated manatee sanctuary.

Our Polk County power plant is an industry leader – and award winner – for its innovative solution of diverting and treating wastewater for cooling versus pumping precious groundwater. The result is a cleaner bay, and well-fed manatees like those at the Manatee Viewing Center!
